Project Stress-Testing

Stress, Burnout & Productivity Modeling

We explored how stress, burnout, workload, and scheduling pressure affect productivity in a high-stakes operating environment.

Using mathematical modeling and simulation, we analyzed how different schedule structures impact team performance over time, testing immediate high-output expectations, gradual ramp-ups, rest periods, and small deviations from plan.

The challenge

The goal was to understand a simple but often overlooked business reality: more pressure does not always create more output.

As stress accumulates, productivity can flatten, decline, or become unstable. The model showed how better scheduling, capacity planning, and workload design improve long-term performance without unnecessary burnout.

What this demonstrates

It reflects the way we approach operations, turning complex, hard-to-measure problems into structured models that support better decisions.

The same approach applies to staffing constraints, operational bottlenecks, pricing pressure, production schedules, customer demand, and growth-related stress.

Core insight

Productivity is not just about working harder. It is about understanding the system behind the work.

When the right variables are measured, leaders can see where pressure is creating profit, and where it is quietly creating drag.
